Mark Owens | Joint Managing Director
My family started Owens Builders Ltd, and I joined the company nearly 40 years ago as an apprentice. 40 years from the start of my journey, and I am honored to be a Joint Managing Director at Owens Builders.
I’ve helped to elevate the business into a well-respected construction company that is fondly known across the UK. And love nothing more than ensuring we provide a premium client service, along with the latest building and maintenance knowledge in our industry.
You’ll mainly find me delivering estimates and quotations, along with onboarding new clients.

Steve Smethurst | Joint Managing Director
As one of the Managing Directors of Owens Builders, you’ll find me overseeing the onboarding of new business, and the delivery of exceptional full-service construction projects from start to finish.
I’ve been with Owens Builders for almost 20 years, and have enjoyed helping to uplift this small family-run business into an outstanding, dynamic, industry leading contracting firm.
My many years of logistical and tactical building expertise and client service ensures that each of our projects are completed to an exceptional standard— which is a proud trademark of our work at Owens Builders.
Asides from being a passionate leader at Owens Builders, you’ll find me highly involved in community and charity projects such as the Steve Prescott Foundation and Rugby League Cares.
I’m highly dedicated to helping advocate for the communities in need, and youth, of Greater Manchester.
Matt Brandreth
My journey in construction began with an apprenticeship at Carillion Construction, where I earned NVQs in carpentry and joinery. Following my apprenticeship, I embarked on a self-employed venture, tackling various aspects of first and second fix joinery on new build sites.
Seeking broader experience, I joined Regard Partnership as a maintenance operative. This role involved reactive and planned maintenance across residential and supported living properties, encompassing joinery, painting and decorating, plastering, basic plumbing, and electrics. While at Regard, I further honed my skills by attaining an NVQ in Building Maintenance, Multi-Trade Repair & Refurb.
In 2017, I returned to self-employment, continuing my work on new builds. That same year, my brother-in-law, employed at Owens Builders, connected me with an opportunity as a subcontractor on a project in Hale. Drawn to the family atmosphere and team spirit, I joined Owens Builders permanently in January 2018.
A year ago, I pursued and successfully obtained the supervisor position at Owens. This role allows me to leverage my experience and lead our team to deliver exceptional results.
Beyond the Workplace:
Outside of work, I cherish spending quality time with my two young children, enjoying walks, and creating lasting memories together.
